Where are the Dog Parks?
One is located in Osprey Park. The park is on Town Center Blvd. on the west side of John Young Pkwy. Take Town Center Blvd. west. After you pass the intersection of Town Center Blvd. and Hunter’s Creek Blvd., the park is on the left. The Dog Park is the area behind the chain link fence on your right, just past the entrance. The other is located in Vista Park. The park is on Hunter’s Vista Blvd. on the west side of John Young Pkwy. Take Town Center Blvd. west. After you pass over the Shingle Creek Bridge, Hunter’s Vista Blvd. is just a half a mile on your right. Take Hunter’s Vista Blvd. to the roundabout and make a left at the entrance of Terra Vista and turn right into the parking lot; the dog park is the area behind the chain link fence.
How are the Parks Divided?
The parks are divided into two separate areas. The larger area marked “Social Dogs Only” is for dogs that like to be with other dogs. The smaller area marked “Aggressive Dogs” is for dogs that do not wish to socialize with other dogs or people. Remember, only one dog at a time in the “Aggressive Dog” area.
Children and the Dog Parks
Children may understand how to play with their own dog. However, new dogs can pose a safety problem, especially for young children. For that reason, children under the age of 14 who wish to play with their dog at the park must be accompanied by an adult owner. In addition, we strongly recommend that kids and their dog use the “Aggressive Dog” area, where only one dog is allowed at a time. No child may be present inside the dog park without adult supervision.
How to Use the Locks
Locks on the gates to each park have the same combination. PUSH-BUTTON LOCKS: Simply push the buttons on the lock in the order that they appear in the combination, and turn the handle to open the gate. Both locks on the gates have the same combination. CHAIN-TYPE LOCKS: The wheels on the bottom of the locks must be set to the combination. Be sure you are reading the numbers right side up when you set the numbers. Once the numbers are set, push up on the lock and it will click open. As soon as it is opened, please move the wheels so that the combination does now show on the dials. The combination is provided by HCCA at the time the owner registers his dog, provides the dog’s health records, and pays a small fee. Do not share this combination with anyone! It is for your dog’s protection. In order to lock the gate, you do not need to reset the combination. After entering and exiting the dog parks, please be sure you close and lock the gate.
How to Use the Bags to Pick Up After Your Dog
Plastic bags are located in boxes that are secured to numerous points along the fence line, throughout the parks. Pull out a bag and open the top end. Place the entire bag over your hand and part of your arm. Place your hand over the waste and pick it up. Reverse the bag by pulling it back over your arm and hand. The waste is now contained inside the bag. Expel any excess air from the bag by running your hand up the outside of the bag and then tie a knot in the upper part of the bag to seal off the waste. Please put the bag inside the container outside of the gate. Do not place the bag on top of the trash container.
It is very important that you clean up after your dog. With the large number of dogs using the area, the park would become unusable in a very short time if we do not clean up after our dogs. This is very important for the health of all our dogs by helping to prevent the spread of any diseases. It is also Orange County law that you clean up after your dog.
We also hope that you are cleaning up after your dog whenever you are walking it. Over one-third of all complaints received at the Hunter’s Creek Community Association are related to dogs. Cleaning up after your dog is an easy habit to get into and it demonstrates to all that you believe in responsible dog ownership!
Use of Dog Tags
Please place your Hunter’s Creek Dog Tag on your dog’s collar. One of our rules requires this tag in order for you to use the park. It shows other owners that your dog’s shots are up-to-date and that it is safe for your dog to use the park. It also provides information, such as a phone number, for anyone to call if your dog becomes lost. This is especially useful if you are traveling. If your dog happens to become lost, whoever finds your dog can call the number on the I.D. tag, and be put in touch with people who can reunite you with your dog. You may also be asked by security patrols to show your Hunter’s Creek I.D., in order to have access to the Dog Park.
